A Minecraft enchantment plan is not only a list of books. It is a sequence of anvil operations, and every operation changes the price of the operations that follow. When you place an item in the left anvil slot, it becomes the target. The book or item in the right slot is the sacrifice. Minecraft carries the target forward, consumes the sacrifice, adds the compatible enchantments, and records another anvil use. Reversing the two inputs can therefore change the level cost even when the final enchantments look identical. This is why adding books one by one is often a poor strategy. The early steps may look cheap, but the growing anvil penalty can make a later combination exceed the Minecraft Survival limit. A good Minecraft enchantment order builds selected books together first, keeps expensive enchantments from being charged repeatedly, and controls the depth of the final merge tree.
